"Face On Mars" Diorama |
In 1976, NASA's
Viking 1 spacecraft orbited the red planet Mars, mapping
the terrain and searching for evidence of extraterrestrial
life. When it reached a region known as Cydonia, it
captured a striking image that eerily resembled that of a
humanoid face staring back into space. Later missions made more detailed topographical data on the curious formation available and proved once for all the structure to be nothing more than a heavily-eroded mountain region, the face being the result of a mere trick of the light as the sun's rays hit the mountains at just the right angle, casting shadows across the mesa that resemble basic features of a human face. Nevertheless, it's a fascinating formation that has become a pop culture icon that still sparks the imaginations of many, as well as being the subject of many conspiracy theories, such as the notion of NASA possibly covering up the truth about the "Face of Mars". Is it actually a massive monument built by a long-extinct Martian civilization? Did NASA purposefully destroy the structure with explosives to hide the truth? For some, the debate lives on. Now Landron Artifacts presents this artist's interpretation of the iconic "Face on Mars" as a highly detailed diorama the way we all kind of wished it looked in real life, carefully using the original Viking 1 image as reference. The top, left, and right sides of the diorama feature blocks of stone resembling cyclopean masonry, implying ancient Martian construction methods. The bottom side features a row of ancient Martian runes. FEATURES
